Keep Your Pet Cool and Safe in these Summer Months.

Posted

Tips to keep your pet hydrated, cool and safe:

  • Always have cool fresh water available inside and out in shady areas.
  • Carry a bottle of water when going on a walk with your dog.
  • If your dog is mostly an outside pet make sure you have adequate shaded areas for your dog to find a cool retreat.
  • In summer months walking is most definitely for early mornings or evening hours (remember if the pavement is too hot for your feet / hands (test before you pooch walks) it’s too hot for their paws)
  • Dogs cool from the bottom up, so cool your dog down by laying down a wet towel for your dog to lie on, or even find a shady spot in the backyard and set up a kiddie pool with enough water for them to sit comfortably in. (Make sure they can get in and out easily).
  • If you have a fluffy & hairy breed dog have them regularly trimmed up in summer months. This is much better for both you and your pooch, they will be freer and cooler and you will spend less time grooming mattered dog hair.
  • Cool treats are great for your buddy to cool off with a Kong Icicle filled with their favourite treats, freeze and allow them to enjoy a very cool icy treat!
  • Pools are always great fun, but ensure fun times are supervised for your pet (just as you do for your children).
  • NEVER EVER leave your pooch or any pet in a parked car! Cars retain more heat even in the shade than in an open area. On long road trips, make sure you have plenty of water for your dog or pet and keep the air conditioning on at all times.
